African Lobbying Union (ALU)

Is the official pan-African organisation dedicated to championing and representing ethical professional conduct and standards in the practice of government affairs consulting and advisory services across the African continent.

ALU was founded and legally registered as a Non-Profit Company in the Republic of South Africa, on 5 December 2019.

We define ethical and professional government affairs consulting and advisory services to constitute:

  • Lobbying, advocacy and government relations for the purposes of engaging in constructive public policy, legislative, regulatory, administrative, institutional, administrative and political processes for formulation, decision-making, rule-making, implementation and review.
  • Direct representation of clients before government, state and political institutions, processes, decision-makers, representatives and staffers.
  • Facilitating communication engagement, dialogue, as well as information sharing and exchange with government, state and political institutions, decision-makers, representatives and staffers, on behalf of clients.

Mandate

ALU is the vanguard and representative voice for professional government affairs consulting and advisory services on the African continent.

Our work is focused on developing and embedding high standards of ethical conduct and professionalism in the practice of lobbying, advocacy and government relations across Africa.

Mission

ALU works to continuously establish, maintain, elevate and advance recognition, integrity, ethics, standards and representation for our industry on the African continent and internationally.

Vision

Our ambition is to realise the development and sustainability of a thriving and prosperous African government affairs consulting and advisory services industry, which proactively and purposefully contributes to:

  1. Raising its own ethical and professional standards, conduct and practice.
  2. Promoting responsible client advocacy, lobbying and government relations.
  3. Deepening democratic governance and the dividends in Africa.
  4. Improving the quality of democratic, institutional and political processes.
