Structure and system

Through our system of national and regional focal points across African jurisdictions, we provide support, capacity and collaboration to advance the ethical interests, impact and contribution of our industry to democratic governance processes on the African continent.

In parallel with the deepening of democratic governance and the maturation of our industry on the African continent, we are constantly seeking to expand our footprint and the range of expertise, knowledge and resources we bring as an organization.

  1. Cultivating public trust, recognition and acceptance in and of our industry, its ethical practices and reputation, including the eyes of government and political institutions, as well amongst relevant societal stakeholders.

  4. Developing and partnering to design and deliver special programs, projects and activities, including but not limited to tangible assets, resources, collateral, best-practices, knowledge sharing, information exchange and experiential learning.
  5. Developing the knowledge base, institutional memory and expertise of our industry.
  6. Profiling best-practices and examples of excellence within our industry.
  7. Partner with continental and international allies, ‘ambassadors’ and supporters of our industry.
  8. Conducting research, analysis, data collection and knowledge management of our industry on the African continent.
  9. Benchmarking our industry and tracking its evolution and development.
  10. Represent our industry in key national, continental and international forums, platforms and media.
 

Strategic Objectives

  1. Ethics, Standards and Transparency

To formulate best practice and internationally benchmarked African codes, frameworks, guidelines, practice notes and tools for ethical practice, quality standards and transparency disclosures of high calibre.

  1. Legitimacy, public trust and reputation

Ensure the legitimacy, public trust and reputation of our industry as part of and within democratic institutional and political processes for public policy, legislative regulatory, administrative and public service decision-making and implementation.

  1. Appropriate regulation

To be at the forefront of activities and discourse to secure, shape and inform our industry’s ‘license to operate’ across the African continent and within national jurisdictions.

  1. Industry leadership

To be a trusted and knowledgeable thought leader, subject matter expert and resource base within and for our industry, continentally and within national jurisdictions on the African continent.

  1. Advocacy and Reputation

We proactively and continuously work to profile and position the ALU and our industry through the following initiatives to cultivate understanding and socialization of our industry:

  • Advocacy and lobbying

Awareness raising campaign, including to demystifying concepts, practices and terminology

  • Public relations, marketing and events
  • Reputation building and management
  • Stakeholder relations and engagement
  1. Strategic relations

Actively pursue, cultivate and maintain recognition, cooperation, collaboration and partnerships with international fraternal organisations and other relevant bodies. This includes:

  • the private sector
  • civil society
  • academia
  • public bodies and authorities
  • regional, international and multi-lateral organisations
